Street Craps is one of the easiest games to play because players only need two things: a set of dice and a flat surface to throw them on. A lot of players prefer this over the casino version because the rules are simpler and faster. If you want to learn more about this game, read along and discover what street dice rules are all about.

Street Dice, also known as Street Craps and Shooting Dice is a simple gambling game that’s similar to a game of regular craps. The only difference is that Street Craps can be played outside without the use of a conventional table. The game was first introduced at the Downtown Grand Casino in Las Vegas in 2014.

The name came from the 1900s street gambling which was also played the same way on the streets or sidewalks. Street Craps uses a pair of dice and the goal is for the players to predict the outcome of the roll of the dice.

Shooting dice rules

Just like any other table games, street dice has a simple set of rules to follow:

  • There is no ruling on how to choose the shooter. Whoever arrives first is allowed to shoot. Players can rotate the position, take turns or select a volunteer.
  • The shooter will select the betting amount they want to wager and choose between two betting options: Pass or Don’t Pass.
  • Before the shooter rolls a seven, they will throw the target number if they opted for the Pass bet.
  • It’s up to the shooter to offer odds during the game.
  • This method will continue after the players have placed their bets on the options that are opposite to the shooter’s bet.
  • The shooter can reduce the betting amount if the wagers can’t cover the initial bet that they selected.
  • In Street Craps, players can also make side bets.
  • After the shooter throws the dice, all bet placing must stop.
  • All Passes get a win if the result of the dice roll is seven or eleven.
  • Don’t Pass bets will win if the results are two, three, or twenty.

Side bets

Unlike traditional craps, street dice has only two side bets that players can make during the game. These being the...

Pass

Pass is a bet that the shooter places when they believe they will roll a seven or eleven. If the result of the dice roll is either of these two numbers, the shooter wins. This bet is made before the “Set the Point” roll. If the result is 7 or 11, the Pass bet wins but if the “Set the Point” is 2, 3, or 12, the Pass bet loses.

Step by step instructions

  1. First, the players must identify who will be the shooter. According to the rules of Street Dice, anyone can be chosen as the shooter.
  2. After that, the shooter will make a bet and the players will follow in a clockwise direction.
  3. Until the shooter’s bet has been matched, the betting will continue.
  4. Next, the players will predict the first roll of the game.
  5. If the result of the dice roll is 7 or 11, the shooter and other players who sided with the shooter wins.
  6. If the result is 2, 3, or 12, the shooter and other players who are in favour of the shooter loses.
  7. A Point is made if a number other than the ones mentioned above is rolled.
  8. The dice will roll again, and this time, the shooter has to match the Point number without rolling the 7.
  9. The shooter loses when he rolls a 7 before hitting the Point.
  10. If the Point is rolled, the shooter wins. The shooter continues to roll the dice if other numbers are rolled.

Street Craps Tips and Tricks

Learn the probability of rolling a particular number

When rolling the dice, some numbers are likely to come up more often. Out of all the numbers, 7 is most likely to come up and there’s a 17% chance of hitting it. Out of 36 possible values between the sum of the two dice, there are 6 ways to hit 7, so it’s likely that you’ll hit 7 more often.

After 7, the next possible values that have 5 ways to land are 6 and 8. Then comes 5 and 9, 4 and 10, and so on. The least likely values to come up are 2 and 12.

Roll the dice correctly

When you’re the shooter it’s imperative that you roll the dice correctly and let it hit the wall. In Casino Craps, the shooter has to roll the dice in a way where it hits the back wall of the table because it won’t count if it doesn’t. The same applies for Street dice and this is why the game is played against a wall.

To roll the dice correctly, set the dice in a way that the 3 on the top of the dice is in a V shape. This is commonly known as ‘set’ in the traditional game. It shows that the shooter is not cheating or doing a trick to land a particular number.

The shooter should bet big

The usual scenario in Street Dice is like this: the shooter bets that he will pass and the other players bet that he will crap out. Since you have an idea on the probability of a certain number to come up, the most possible result of a roll is 7. So while you’re not the shooter, be careful of how you place your bets and don’t make bets on crap outs that are unlikely. Wait until you’re the shooter to make huge bets so you’ll have a higher possibility of winning the game.

The difference between Street Dice and Casino Craps

While the games are almost played the same, there’s still a slight difference between the two.

Casino Craps

In Casino Craps, there’s a table where you can place your bets and a banker/dealer that coordinates the money and the action. The banker’s job is to pay attention to the bets being made because it requires immediate action.

Street Dice

The absence of a banker in Street Dice is the most obvious difference between the two. In this game, no player takes the role of the banker. Another difference is that Street Dice doesn’t feature a casino table. Players can only rely on a wall to bounce the dice. Lastly, the overall variation only has two side bets.
