Maximise your wins in craps with the Iron Cross strategy that is not only easy but will up the ante on a fun gaming experience. Also known as ‘no seven system’, it allows you to bet on all possible numbers on the table except seven. Get to know more about the Iron Cross craps strategy here at Bitcasino!

The Iron Cross craps strategy is a betting system wherein players can cover every possible number on the table except 7 because landing on this number results in you losing your entire wager.

Iron Cross craps basics

The 4 wager types

In this strategy, you’ll only place four wagers on the table, namely:

  • Field bets covering 1, 2, 3, 4, 9, 10, 11, and 12.
  • Number 5 place bet.
  • Number 6 place bet.
  • Number 8 place bet.

There are 36 different combinations that you can roll. 6 of these combinations can land you a 7 with which you’ll lose your wager. On the other hand, there are 30 ways you can land any number other than 7 which will, in turn, maximize your odds of winning a round.

Payout system

With this betting system, your payouts will vary depending on the number the dice lands on. Listed below are the payouts for each of the 4 wagers on the Iron Cross:

  • Field bets offer a 1:1 payout except 2 and 12 wherein your rewards are either doubled or tripled.
  • Landing 6 or 8 rewards a 7:6 payout.
  • Rolling a 5 rewards a 7:5 payout.

Keeping your wagers low can help maximize the odds on the four bets. For example, if the table minimum is US$10, then you’ll be betting US$44 in total on the field and place bets. With the given payouts above, you’ll have to wager US$10 each on the field bet and place bet 5 while putting up a US$12 wager on numbers 6 and 8.

Place your wagers before the dice are rolled. When any of the field bet numbers are hit, you’ll profit US$10 without affecting any of the place bets. All you have to do is leave the original wagers where they are on the next roll.

On the other hand, when one of the place bets are hit, you’ll initially win US$14 while losing your wager on the field bet. This means your profit is only US$4 because your US$10 wager from the field bet is taken by the casino.

Here’s a table to further illustrate the payout system:

The math behind the strategy

Although the payouts are rewarding, all your wagers in the Iron Cross strategy are still subjected to a casino’s house edge.

house edge is computed by adding all your profits or losses and dividing them by the sum of all the wagers you’ve made during the play. Usually, casinos have a house edge between 1.52% to 5.56% on your payouts.

The table below illustrates how the casino profits from your winnings when you wager on US$30 each for 6 and 8 then US$25 each for the 5 and field bet:

The roll frequency is multiplied to the profit per roll column so casinos can yield the pro-rated profit on your winnings. When you sum the pro-rated profit, it’ll give you the average net loss per roll of US$1.94.

However, the sum of all the wagers should also be taken into consideration when computing the house edge. The table below illustrates the prorated computation for every new bet after every roll:

With an average of US$50.28 in the new bets, the house edge can now be computed. When you divide the net loss per roll against the average new bets, then it will equal to 3.87%. This is the profit the casino has over your wager.

Advantages and disadvantages of iron cross craps

Now, this raises the question: is the Iron Cross strategy a good betting system to use for maximum profit? Taking into account the above tables, betting one unit using this strategy carries a 3.87% house edge that can cost you about 85 cents every wager.

Even though you win on all numbers except 7, the tax held by the casino over your winnings can pile up and cost you twice as much money. The Iron Cross craps strategy isn’t a safe bet if you truly want to profit from your wager. However, it can still be useful if you’re playing a one-off bet to cap off the game.

You’d also be able to double or triple your payout when betting for the field bets especially when the dice lands on 2 or 12. This is because the odds of hitting those 2 numbers when you roll the dice are lower.

The Iron Cross craps strategy is thrilling because you have the chance to win no matter where your dice lands, with the exception of 7. However, this doesn’t give you an advantage in the long run because the longer you play, the bigger the house edge gets over your winnings.
