Strategise Your Way to Beat the Odds of Baccarat and Blackjack

Strategise Your Way to Beat the Odds of Baccarat and Blackjack

Two of the most popular table games in the world are baccarat and blackjack. These games pique the interest of players because they have simple mechanics and impressive payouts. They are both based on chance and randomness, but with the right kind of strategy, you can have a chance to beat their odds.

At present, blackjack’s origins are still debatable. The most accepted theory by researchers is that blackjack originated in French casinos during the time of King Louis XV around 1700s. The French called their cards ‘Vingt-et-un’ that translates to ‘twenty one’. It relates to blackjack’s main goal of achieving a total card value of 21, so researchers agree that this theory is the most plausible.

On the other hand, baccarat is believed to have been invented in the 1400s by Felix Falguire. He is an Italian gambler who first called the game ‘baccara’ because all face cards have zero values. ‘Baccara’ is an Italian word for ‘zero’, so it also coincides with the game’s mechanics. Through the years, the world adopted its French spelling ‘baccarat’.

Baccarat vs blackjack’s biggest difference lies in their betting options aside from their mechanics. When you play blackjack, you are betting on yourself to win. In baccarat, you have two options: you can bet on the player or banker. Playing these games build nerve-racking excitement, especially if you learned how to beat the odds.

Baccarat vs. Blackjack: Know Your Rules

For you to know how to beat the odds of baccarat and blackjack, you must learn their rules first. Baccarat’s main goal is to get a total card value closest or equal to nine. All aces are equal to 1 point while tens and face cards are worth zero.

Keep in mind that your objective in blackjack is to beat the dealer by getting a total card value of 21 or anything higher than the dealer’s cards. You must not ‘bust’ or go over 21 so you can have a chance to win. All tens and face cards are worth 10 points in blackjack while aces are equal to 1 or 11 points.

Betting Options, House Edge and Payouts

For baccarat, you can bet on the banker or player. If you bet on the banker and it wins, you receive 95% of your stake and the other 5% goes to the casino. This makes a house edge of 1.06%.

Betting on the player gives you 100% of your stake if it wins. It has a house edge of 1.24%. You can also have a side bet where you can wager on a tie. It has a house edge of 14.44%. If you bet that the banker and player will have tied values and it wins, you get 8x your stake.

Meanwhile, blackjack offers a payout of 3:2 if you get a total card value of 21. Beating the dealer’s hand without necessarily having a blackjack gives you a payout of 1:1. This game also has a popular side bet called ‘insurance’ that pays 2:1. This bet is offered when the dealer’s upcard is an ace. Generally, blackjack has a house edge of less than 1%.

Baccarat vs. Blackjack: Pick the Perfect Strategy

How to Beat the Odds of Baccarat

How to beat the odds of baccarat is highly reliant on your choice to bet on the banker or player. The three most popular strategies are flat betting, pattern tracking, and the 1-3-2-4 trick.

Flat Betting (One-sided) Strategy

Flat betting is one of the most recommended strategies by regular players. This strategy can be beneficial, especially if you’re a beginner. Take advantage of the banker’s low house edge by consecutively betting on it for more chances to create wins.

Flat betting is also called ‘one-sided’ because you are only betting on one side for a couple of rounds. This strategy is fairly simple, so it also works for beginners who are not familiar with the rules. Players can enjoy small, short-term wins rather than risking high bets for lower chances of winning when they use flat betting.

Pattern Tracking

Pattern tracking gives you an overview of the statistical probabilities of cards that are being dealt on each round. This strategy works by keeping track of every win during the previous rounds. Your chances of winning become slightly higher as you spot pattern trends.

Based on statistics, the banker wins 45.84% of the time while the player wins 44.62%. They have a difference of 1.22%, so you can use that percentage to your advantage. Don’t lose your attention and tally the outcomes in your mind to possibly predict which hand wins next.

1-3-2-4 Strategy

This strategy is probably the most favourite of most players, including beginners and high rollers. The 1-3-2-4 strategy works by betting 1 unit (for example, €1) on your first round, 3 units on the 2nd, 2 units on the 3rd, and 4 units on the 4th. With this strategy, you can have small profits from small wins.

Winning two or three numbers in a sequence still gives you at least a 2-unit profit. Baccarat is a well-known game of chance, but with these strategies, you can have a higher potential to win rewards. You can also combine any of these tricks if you are already familiar with how the game works and how you can beat the odds.

How to Beat the Odds of Blackjack

Know how to beat the odds of blackjack through card counting and splitting. These two tricks have been proven to increase your chances of winning more rounds.

Card Counting

Card counting is the most popular strategy of blackjack. If you keep practising this trick, you can take advantage of it in the long run. This strategy works by counting cards and trying to predict the next hand based on the number of high and low cards that have been dealt.

Knowing when to split in blackjack gives you an edge in beating its odds. This strategy is only applicable if you are dealt with a pair of matching cards. If you split, you can also double your wager.

A pair of aces and eights should always be split. As a pair, they both produce small values that give you extremely low chances to win. Splitting these two card values makes a smart choice because you have two chances to win with double payouts.

You should also never split tens and fours. One pair of tens makes a 20, so splitting them will only do you more harm than good. When it comes to splitting fours, there is a higher possibility that you get less valuable cards to match your 4s. Apart from that, you also have slim chances of busting out when you get this pair.
