Riding on the success of the recent Pixar film Coco, comes Dia de los Muertos. A slot by Endorphina that brings a little magic to your day. Inspired by the famous Mexican festival where the dead are celebrated and remembered, the slot brings the vibrance and colour of the passionate South American country to life.
This game developer can be relied upon for getting it right, with their attention to detail and commendable cultural sensitivity. Here they’ve done it again, with some spot-on visuals and a soundtrack that wouldn't have been out of place in the world music section of your local record store - before it went bankrupt that is.
Playing the game
Set up slightly differently from what you might be used to, there are plenty of festival related features to enjoy. As for placing bets though, there are just a few things to note. The upper left corner houses the credits bar, tap here to increase or decrease your coin size and view the balance. The ‘bet’ button sits at the bottom on the right, you can increase and decrease your total bet amounts here.
With this slot you can control the amount of paylines, and this can be done using the ‘lines’ button. You can also set the amount of times the auto spins will roll in this panel.
To get going simply hit ‘spin’ once the other parameters are set, you can also boost (or reduce) it by hitting ‘turbo’. There are additional functions not usually found on slots here too, ‘take win’ and ‘take risk’ buttons will pop up after a win, giving you the chance to gamble.
Some great features, and a cheeky flutter
As we briefly touched on before, the game’s setup is a little different. Having only three reels featuring two symbols can feel a little restricting at first, but you soon get used to it and realise this game’s potential with its features, wilds and scatters.
Catrina is the highest paying symbol and may become a wild during your game, but not always. The scatter comes in the form of a sunset scene and can create scatter wins from three symbols that might land at random anywhere across the board.
On top of this, three or more scatters will activate the fantastic ‘free games’ feature, awarding you 20 free spins! At this point Catrina becomes a wild, acting as a substitute for all other symbols, except the scatters.
The gamble feature is always a favourite for those who are feeling a little more plucky, and has become quite the habit for Endorphina. You’ll be shown a card, with four more hidden from view. You need to choose one of the four hidden cards, which if higher than the dealer card will bag you a doubling of your spin’s win. Get a lower card than the dealer though, and lose everything. You will get the chance to repeat in the less likely event of getting a matching card.
Ok, so it’s a crackin’ slot. We love the fact it looks and feels a bit different, we love the soundtrack (some of us) and we love the naughty gamble feature too. Dia de los Muertos has a nice RTP of 96.00%, even though it just has the three reels and five paylines, but as payouts go it isn't at all shy. The graphics and details are stunning and the gameplay a pleasure. ¿Entonces, Qué esperas? ¡Juega, amigo mío, y gana!
