Plus there is a Super Charge round where players wins are subject to an x5 multiplier and a four seasons feature which each having their own wild extra for improving gains.
Playing Mahjong 88
Visually, Mahjong 88 has a traditional and Chinese feel – played on an eight by eight grid; the symbols are shown in a grid formation where matching icons appear in a cluster to give players more winning combinations. The tiles on the grid include tiles from the bams and dots suit plus four flowers and four wilds (spring, summer, autumn and winter). The lotus flower tile is the top-rewarding with twelve or more, giving players 500 times their placed stake.
Clusters formed in the game can form both vertically and horizontally adjacent to the same icon. If players obtain a winning combination, the contributing symbols are removed and then replaced by newer tokens – this allows players to win again and again.
Players will notice there are concealed tiles that are blank – these rotate to be revealed as a nearby secret icon. All winning combinations won increasingly contribute to the Fortune Frog meter. This is where players rog can fully charge the meter with thirty-three winning icons.
When no wins are generated, one of the following outcomes will be activated:
Spawn – 1 symbol set is selected to transfer to another icon
Croak – 1 icon set is chosen to pay scatter style rather than in nearby positions
Hope – 1 icon is taken that changes and destroys adjacent symbols
Tongue – 2 edges are selected from symbols before they transform to another icon
Special features of Mahjong 88
When players overcharge the Fortune Frog meter with 88 or more winning icons, the Super Charge feature is activated. All subsequent winning combinations contain an x5 multiplier.
As mentioned previously, Mahjong 88 has four seasons – spring, summer, autumn and winter. Each season stars its own wild that is randomly activated when players unable to form a winning combination. The wilds perform the usual substituting duties and are removed if part of a win or the Fortune Frog round is triggered:
Spring – up to twelve wilds can appear randomly on the grid
Summer – up to five wilds can appear with adjacent symbols destroyed
Autumn – up to eleven wilds can appear with icons turning wild or smashed from the edges
Winter – up to four wilds appear that remain on the reels even if they obtain a winning combination
The season changes after each spin - the minimum number of turns in a season is twenty-five, and the maximum is ninety-nine. It will advance from the spring to summer to autumn and finally, to winter.
All winning combinations contribute to the raising the Season Bonus – this is won each time the season changes. Players will observe the amount in the screen’s top right-hand corner growing by 10% of each symbol win amount.
Mahjong 88 is an unusual slot and will take some time getting used to. It is all about forming a cluster. Players can benefit from four effects; however, it’s all about the randomly activated extras from each of the four seasons. The biggest wins arrive from the Super Charge round with the x5x multiplier.
Whilst the oldest online video slots date back to the mid-1990s, Mahjong 88 is a game that has been played for hundreds of years. Mahjong 88 is an intriguing mix of old and new that players will love.
