The world of farmyard slots is an odd one, every now and then they appear, perplex us and then disappear into a forgotten chasm of bad cartoons and cheesy cliches. Though we might just have found the antidote. Barnyard Twister brings the tired theme to life by mixing it up with the addition of a full-force tornado. Ok, it sounds weird, but it might just work?
Here we have a 5 x 3 slot game over a 25 payline setup from the legendary Booming Games. For us in Europe the tornado is the thing of fantasy - from the American movies, off the news. But whilst you play this slot, the twister becomes very much part of your life.
Basic yet clear visuals, effortless gameplay
Set on a backdrop of green grass and rolling fields with a big round bale of hay to set the reels against, it certainly sets the scene well. Cows (highest value 80 coins), sheep, pigs and chickens for the main symbols, as well as the standard playing card symbols from 10 to Ace. Unusually the scatter depicts the prize it will bring, in this case three free spins, so it reads 3FS on the symbol… different. A tornado is represented on the other scatter.
Barnyard Twister Slot Features
Barnyard Twister has its quirks, but often they add to the charm. We think it’s important to note early on that the scatter doesn’t have the ability to payout itself, only get you into features that do. It also only appears on reel 3.
Double Symbols act as if they are two corresponding single symbols. They can form paylines through matching with other doubles, and with singles too. Five matching Double Symbols would mean a payout equivalent to 10 matching single symbols.
The unique features are the ones that pull in the punters, and this slot is no exception.
One Scatter symbol on the game board will trigger three Free Spins.
Another great feature is the ‘Rotator’, get three special symbols and trigger two rotations, four to trigger three, and five to trigger four. When the regular payline winnings have been counted the gameboard rotates 90 degrees and new payline wins are calculated. After one single rotation the special symbol replaces any other symbol to form a payline win until rotations are used up.
Barnyard Twister offers you excellent performance. The graphics are cheesy, but very high in quality. The soundtrack is grating though, and although calming, it's just too bad to ignore.
Barnyard Twister isn’t the best of payers, the chilled out playability can get tedious at times and the kitsch graphics are not to everyone’s taste. The upsides are the variance being low, so it works well for those looking for a safe option and the addition of the tornados. For some reason those tornados really liven the slot up, in fact, we might go as far as to say it saves the game. It’s a mixed bag though, all we can say is try it out but don’t expect to win or lose a fortune.
