California Gold is a five reel slot with three rows and up to twenty paylines; inspired by the California Gold Rush in 1848. The reels turn against the backdrop of some rotting wooden boards whilst there’s the mountains in the background of undiscovered California.
All the icons are mining theme-related and are a cart of gold, a panning dish, a miner behind a rock, a struggling donkey, sticks of dynamite, a map, a lamp, a barrel, a pickaxe and a gold mine.
The Mad Miner symbol acts as the game's wild and only appears on the second, third and fourth reels. The shining gold nugget is California Gold's scatter symbols, and it is this icon that activates the free spins.
Bonus Features of California Gold
Mad Miner Bonus Game
This mini-game is triggered by when players land the Mad Miner on either the second, third or fourth reels. Players are presented with four mines and must merely choose one. The miner picked will zoom down the shaft in a cart and try to grab some gold stars. Players will win how many gold ounces that the miner manages to collect.
Free spins are triggered when players land three, four or five of the gold nugget scatter symbols anywhere along the reels. Players will then receive ten free spins and each win made are subject to an x3 multiplier.
Furthermore, players who get three or more scatters during the free spins round will be bestowed more free spins and they can even trigger the Mad Miner bonus feature during this round too.
Should players wish to double or quadruple their wins, they can do so by clicking the ‘Gamble’ button placed under the reels. Players will need to correctly guess the outcome of the next card drawn, and guess the suit and colour. Guess wrongly though, and players will forfeit their winnings.
Sadly, California Gold is a little dated like the theme it is supposed to represent, players will love it for a few spins, and the bonus features are easily triggered, yet it's entertainment levels are a little on the cheap side.
