Mad Hatters features five reels and thirty paylines; there is no backdrop because the big, bright reels consume all the available space.
The lower value icons are all tea party ingredients including a cupcake, various ice creams, a cup of tea, a teapot and a slice of cake. The higher-paying symbols are three cheerful-looking personalities with impressive hats.
Alice In Wonderland is a timeless fantasy novel penned by Lewis Carroll in 1865, and it is a story ripe of characters and circumstances that lend themselves well to Mad Hatters.
The red top hat is the game’s wild symbol, and the cuckoo clock and the blue rabbit are both scatter icons that trigger their respective bonus rounds.
Bonus features of Mad Hatters
As mentioned, the little blue rabbit appearing from the hat is the scatter icons that activate the free spins in the following way:
Three rabbits – ten free spins
Four rabbits – twenty-five free spins
Five rabbits – fifty free spins
Before the spins begin, players will be allowed to transform one of the characters into an additional wild for the duration of the round. As an added extra, all wins won during this feature will be doubled so it can prove quite profitable.
The Cuckoo Bonus is a frequently occurring bonus, and it is activated by landing three, four or five of the cuckoo clock icons anywhere on the reels. Players will then get to pick one, two or three of the clocks and each reveals a coin value.
If the red top hat wild symbols land on the third reel, it expands to cover all positions, providing the player more opportunities for winning combinations.
If players are going for the bonus features here, then they can play with as many or as few paylines as they wish and still have the same possibility of activating them — ideal for low-rollers who like a few added extras.
Because of its patterned gameplay, some aspects of Mad Hatters can get lost in the understanding of it all. Plus, it would have been even sweeter had the paylines been more flexible.
Apart from these concerns, there’s nothing that players would have liked to change about Mad Hatters. It is a big, bold slot game with some nicely designed icons and some suitable music to accompany the gameplay. A little dated now but still worth checking out.
