When Gates of Babylon landed on our desk we couldn’t help but get excited. Being in the business, we know the kind of quality Kalamba can produce, and we rarely see much of a buzz around any of their stunning work. This slot is yet another corker from them, and again, they’re keeping it on the lowdown.
Presented over a daring 4 x 5 setup, with a very decent standard of 40 paylines, this slot gives you a sense of excitement and burning anticipation with its hot features and fluid gameplay.
What’s it all about?
Such an epic name does give it a self-set benchmark to live up to, with nothing to do with 70s classic Rainbow hit, and everything to do with the capital city of the ancient land of Mesopotamia, what we loosely know today as Iraq, Kuwait and parts of Saudi Arabia
Often lavish in their spending practices, these old Eastern lands are the perfect fit for a slot theme, making for an exciting and enchanting experience. Gold adorns the structures of reels, with wild symbols being equally as opulent. Multi Colored rubies form the lower value symbols, whilst high value icons include two impeccably dressed Babylonians, a mean looking monarch and soldier, a beautiful queen and a sexy princess. You also find special silver and gold coins with some fantastic superpowers, as well as a bonus symbol in the form of a key to the extra spins feature.
Visually this game is awesome and draws from the art history books, these feature throughout the game and consist of ornaments and carvings against a powerful green and gold background. The soundtrack tops it all off with beautiful oriental music that drips over the action just loud enough to set the wondrous scene.
Those extra special features*
The extra spins feature is activated once the three Bonus symbols land anywhere on reels. This will activate a round of ten spins with a 3x multiplier, and should you land a Silver Coin during the round, you will win another additional spin! Also, collecting three rubies on a single column (via Golden Coins), a column turns to Wild Column and stays like that during the entire round of extra spins.
Whenever a golden coin lands on columns 1, 3 or 5, the engraved rules will spout one red ruby on top of the column and you will notice that there are three spaces to be filled with rubies. So once you collect all three rubies for a single column, it will trigger the Wild Column feature which turns entire column Wild. It will remain so until all of the rubies in the column are exhausted.
This particular feature is a stand-out, rarely encountered anywhere else! At the upper part of the screen, you will notice an 'I' button. Click on it to toggle between different missions which work like this: during a number of spins, several symbols that are collected get paid an award for the final number of matching symbols collected on all spins.
There are 4 mission levels: Bronze, where symbols are collected for 30 spins, Silver (50 spins), Gold (75 spins) and Platinum (100 spins). Each mission has one category and one level. When you reach the end of the progress bar, you will get a particular multiplier for the selected mission which can go up to staggering 1000x on the Platinum mission!

Gates of Babylon is so underrated, yet so damn good! We are sure that our players will love it. As well as the slick gameplay and magical air it also has a cultured feel to it, we almost forgot we were slot testers and started to feel like museum curators. It’s visually exciting, aurally mesmerising and has a host of features that will guarantee either huge wins or a great time trying.
