Powered by the Asian theme lovers Red Tiger Gaming, Mayan Gods is a setting away from this designer's true preference - Central America.
Mayan Gods has five reels and twenty paylines jam-packed with an icon drop game, gargantuan wilds, transforming symbols and multipliers and an innovative symbol drop game.
The colourful visuals are nothing spectacular, yet they are superbly done. The gameplay is set in an environment containing jungle pyramids. The reels themselves include several Mayan-inspired themes - the lower-value symbols are runestone-style whilst the higher-value ones are four Mayan totems.
The highest card is the red gem encased in gold that pays players up to twenty-five times their stake should people land five of them in a row. The game's wild also substitutes all other icons and can pay 25 times a player's bet stake once again if they obtain five of them on any active payline.
After a win is made, the winning icons are taken away, and newer ones will drop in their place. This will continue until no further winning combinations are possibly made. What's more, each successive icon drop has an increasing multiplier - each win is increased by one. The four Mayan icons randomly appear on each spin and trigger one of the following features:
Mayan Shaman feature – the Shaman is essential, because he increases the value of the current multiplier, then scatters all the icons off the reels to create a new symbol drop with an expanded multiplier in play.
Mayan King feature – this is a sizeable 2×2 wild that fires out even more wilds onto the reels when it appears.
Mayan Eclipse feature – the eclipse icon plus a random assortment of tiles all transform into the same matching symbols so forming new wins, and subsequently new payouts!
Mayan UFO feature – flies onto the reels on any turn and converts lower value icons into higher-value ones. This will then produce newer symbols and more payouts.
Mayan Gods does not contain a free spins feature like in most games from Red Tiger, but the extra features do occur frequently and add to the innovative gameplay, and players will hardly notice it.
Combine the features with the game's symbol drop engine, and players will notice plenty of action. The vibrant and strong graphics are nicely crafted, and there’s plenty of variety on offer in the gameplay.
