The modern world can be a bit intense at times, sometimes a step away from the race is a fantastic way to recentre yourself. Although entitled Jackpot Express, it’s actually far from it! Microgaming brings you this old school gem, with all the bells and whistles (pardon the pun) stripped away, leaving a pure and pleasantly entertaining slot experience for you to enjoy. These guys know how to build top games, and they also know how to build the super-modern video slots, this time they’ve gone back-to-basics.
Presented over a basic three reel setup with a nostalgic five paylines, it’s theme is centred around that of a large express train pulling what appears to be a haul of gold coins, presumably to you? Although a trail of steam extends across the player’s view the train appears to be stationary - could this be a metaphor for a game that doesn’t really let you get very far?
The imagery of a winning journey
The main image of our player view is that of the Express itself, occupying the bottom left of a four segment display. The reels can be found at the top left and the paytable occupies the entire right side of the game. It is quite an unusual way to present the information, but we suspect it could be to do with reigning in markets with slower internet connections, negating the need to switch pages or download too big a file.
Judging by that paytable the wagon of gold is the symbol to get, being by far the most valuable and potentially worth 5000x your stake if you get these three symbols across payline five -running from bottom left to top right. It’s also the wild symbol, substituting for all other symbols to form a win.
Aside from the golden wagon, lower value symbols include single, double and triple bars and lucky red sevens. Getting a combination of the bar symbols will also get you a small win, and is highly likely to happen at points throughout your game.
Playing this slot is childsplay
To get things started you’ll need to set the bets. This can be done by using the small ‘+’ and ‘-‘ buttons found at the bottom of the screen. After this you can choose from one to five paylines using the ‘Bet One’ button. This will give you a betting range of approximately 0.30 EUR to 30 EUR or equivalent.
The paylines need to be activated in numerical order, meaning that to achieve the large 500x your stake wins you’ll need to activate all of the paylines, so that paylines five (the big payer) is active. This will also mean that your minimum stake must be approximately 1.40 EUR or equivalent per spin.
Microgaming certainly doesn’t disappoint with Jackpot Express. Not because it’s particularly beautiful or exciting, but it just works so damn well. It delivers a pure slot gaming experience, the kind you might show to aliens as a demonstration. There is a glaring lack of bonus features, but the purity of this slot - along with the obvious solidity of the gameplay - renders this fact to little more than a niggle. It’s amazing how a wild can shine without distractions.
