We’re going to leave the pirate cliches up there with the title, as this slot deserves to be taken fairly seriously. Celebrating the life of the notorious pirate Jolly Roger, this slot from Play N Go ignores the fact that to celebrate such a character is a bit distasteful these days and just ploughs on regardless - so shall we.
Presented over the typical 5 x 3 setup with a modest 15 paylines, this online video slot sits against the rather striking image of a pirate ship (no surprises there). Casting your eye further over the backdrop to find a silhouette of a fearsome ship making its way over the horizon.
Symbols to be treasured
As you might expect they are all pirate related, the theme is well and truly squeezed to death here. You’ll find cutlasses, cannons, a ship, the one-eyed pirate himself, a gold coin, a red-jewelled ring and a rather sizable diamond.
A nice touch is the sheer amount of bonus symbols, these are valuable and incredibly useful throughout the game, and include a parrot scatter, a pirate flag (Jolly Roger) wild, pieces of a map and a locked chest.
Get three map pieces across reels 1, 2 and 3 to earn the map bonus award. Between the three reels the map is made whole, with part one, two and three ot the map falling over the respective reels.
If you have this happen you’ll be taken to a treasure map bearing crosses that signify where treasure may be buried, pick three of these to find out what prizes are buried beneath for you.
Strangely similar to the previous bonus, this one will need you to get three or more chests anywhere across the reels. After this you get taken to a scene showing a range of chests arrayed on top of a pile of gold, all you have to do is pick two to find out what prizes you will be awarded.
A great tip from us
These bonuses only activate on active paylines, so for the best chance of triggering them, you’ll need to make sure you have as many in play as possible. This rule does not affect the parrot scatter, which can be won with minimum stakes and lines played.
You can tell a lot about the attention to detail and time put into creating a game if the gameplay itself is slick. In Jolly Roger the graphics do tend to let it down a bit, but its cartoon-like feel gives it a charming edge. We think you’ll like it, but maybe it’s not a long-termer.
