You might not know what tailgating is, but that’s not really a problem. Just to fill you in, it’s the legendary American tradition of a 5-hour long pre football game knees up / party / bash, call it what you will. Booming have clearly got the bug here, and we love that fact that such a great tradition is immortalised as a slot theme - this is Tailgating.
Presented over the well-known 5x3 setup with a meagre 15 paylines. There is a range of small bonus features that compliment the two-way pay feature nicely. Free spins and wild wins also contribute to the overall likeability of the slot.
Looks like a cracking party
Get involved with the lads as the party kicks off, with cookouts, beers, music and lots of homoerotic of body painting? Maybe, as the characters etch the words ‘wild’ and ‘free spins’ across their naked chests – just like in real life then.
This slot looks good, reels sit against a green field flanked by stands full of fans on either side, the player (you) is right in the middle of the action, making for an intimate feeling game. Higher paying symbols are basic with a nice 3D realism that brings them alive, low payers are the playing card deck, but with the crass addition of the US flag.
Th wild in the game comes in the form of a fan, as in someone who like football rather than something to keep you cool. Although, you might need one with these wilds as they are the most valuable icon here. As well as doing their usual job of substituting all other symbols to form wins, except for the scatter.
Play it two ways
There are a few tricks up this old dog’s sleeve, including a round of 10 free spins, triggered when you get three or more scatters anywhere across the reels. Trigger for the free spins, the scatter will also pay a total bet multiplier of 5x, 50x and 100x your stake, when you land three, four or five across the reels respectively.
A special football symbol may land that triggers a unique feature. The 2-Way Pay mode transforms the gameplay to create wins in both directions for the following ten spins. Amazingly, this can be retriggered should you get three more of the special football icons. Be warned that it won’t trigger if you opt for free spins and can’t work alongside them either.
Tailgating isn’t bad really, it certainly captures to buzz of the American football pre-parties, and it has a nice range of mini features. We thought it lacked a bit of punch, but the free spins, wild wins and that special 2-Way pay power-play feature help to mitigate the flaws somewhat.
