This collaboration between our friends at Microgaming and boutique developer Rabcat has a theme that feels a bit different, in approach more than the actual topic. The Legend of Olympus follows the ancient Greek Gods as they gather at the mountain, as the story goes. Characteristically sharp graphics and smooth gameplay puts the Microgaming stamp firmly across this one, but can the prizes keep you interested long enough to appreciate them?
Presented over a typical 5x3 setup with a moderate 20 paylines, this slot is set against the ruins of a Greek Temple, with the reels sitting in between two very Greek looking columns. You’ll find Zeus himself perched to the left of your screen, with that infamous God of the underworld, Hades, to the right.
It’s all about the symbols
High-value symbols within this game feature a Greek soldier, a chalice, a spear, a blonde female, a barbarian warrior, a shield, a Greek helm and Poseidon, the God of the sea, earthquakes and horses – maybe staffing issues aren’t only a modern-day curse?
The wild within the game appears as the Hades himself, substituting for all symbols to form wins, except for the scatter. Zeus is that scatter, firing bolts of lightning every time he appears. Zeus is useful as he activates the bonus features and is, therefore, your key to bigger wins.
The features of the legendary game
Unlike most wilds in slots these days, Hades’ contribution to the win by replacing symbols is about the extent of his magic. You won’t find any multipliers here, so the win will stay at the rate that is set by the symbols he replaces. All is not lost though; Hades can also change other icons across the five reels helping to generate a higher final jackpot.
Zeus the scatter will trigger a war with Hades should you get three anywhere on the reels, a free spins round is activated that can also be retriggered. Lovely! Another nice little touch is the Bonus Golden Coin. Get three or more of these you’ll be invited to tap on the symbol to reveal two more coins, giving you the chance to make even more winning combinations.
Now this game also has a gamble feature. That notoriously dangerous temptation that has wiped out many a bankroll over the years. Play with extreme caution, or just don’t play at all. Guess the colour of the next card to double your pot, lose and lose it all. Simple as that.
Well, you can’t really go wrong with Microgaming, and Legend Of Olympus is yet another slick example of how to build a slot game successfully. The theme and the graphics are nice, the soundtrack is inoffensive and tasteful, and the prizes can really add up. We liked it, so will you probably. Will you take home massive wins? Unlikely, but we don’t think you’ll be bankrupted either.
