Yggdrasil is renowned for their exciting step into the slots space, and in our opinion have yet to produce a bad one. Gem Rocks is one of their latest and it’s another beaut, centred around a bunch of characters made of rock. Along with the usual fluid gameplay and graphics we’ve come to expect from Yggdrasil, it’s promising to be a top drawer video slot.
Presented over 6 reels, with a staggering 4096 ways the win overall, this slot has the potential to throw money out at an alarming rate, question is though, will it be enough each time to make it worth your time. There are cascading wins within this game, along with cluster symbols and the ability for you to win all ways.
Visually, Gem Rocks looks amazing
To be fair to this provider, most of their slots do to be honest! The world in which the action takes place is peppered with gems and stones, featuring these massive yet gentle character. A fast game by normal standards, set against a scene of rocky terrain against imposing mountains, it’s as exciting as it is epic.
Across the reels you’ll find a range of symbols, these include eight regular gemstones that make up the body of the wins, with extra rewards coming from the likes of the star symbol, giving you 75 coins for five in a cluster.
Land a winning combo to trigger the dropdown wins feature, where symbols contributing to a win disappear from the screen, making room for new symbols to ‘drop down’ from above, as the name suggests. Provided you keep winning those symbols will keep coming, so if your lucks in you could see some huge wins during this feature.
The big deal is right here
Every slot has it’s star attraction, it’s key player if you like, and here it’s the ‘gem rock’ feature. Activated when you get 2, 5 and 9 dropdown wins in a row. There’s a meter at the bottom of your screen where you can keep tabs of the progress of the feature.
When the feature is triggered, one ‘gem rock’ will fall into the reels from the top. Constructed from a series of identical symbols its size depends on how many consecutive wins you get. Two consecutive wins result in a 2x2 Gem Rock, five consecutive wins result in a 3x3 Gem Rock and nine consecutive wins results in a 4x4 Gem Rock.
You really need to get nine or more consecutive wins as that 4x4 is the only viable payer, the others just play-again money. Get a 4x4 Gem Rock made from the higher value stones and you will see immense wins, up to 2500x is possible with the variance at medium-to-high as it is here.
We had no reason to believe this wouldn’t be great, and indeed we could probably have written this review speculatively. However, who wouldn’t want to spend an afternoon playing such a cleanly mastered and tightly constructed game like Gem Rocks, that also likes to get generous now and then? Exactly.
