Stripped Deck Poker: The Basics

Stripped Deck Poker: The Basics

10/11/2019

By now, most people are not unfamiliar with poker. It is one of the most played card games out there and most casinos probably have some variant of it that you can play.

The most popular variant of poker is Texas Hold’em, and you see people hold tournaments for professional players. Most poker games are played with the standard deck that consists of 52 cards. But, there is a poker game that only uses 36 cards in total.

Stripped Deck Poker or 6+ Poker is a variant of the popular game that only uses 36 cards in a deck. This is because the deuces, threes, fours and fives are taken out of the deck. This poker variant is usually played by 6 people, but player numbers as low as 2 until as much as 20 can participate in this game.

The ranking for the houses in this poker variant has also been reworked. You are more likely to hit a certain house deck than others because of the stripped nature of the card deck. The Ace can also have two values in this deck—it can serve as the lowest card or the highest card in a house deck. Because the four lowest cards have been taken out of the deck, the lowest straight is now A-6-7-8-9 and the highest one is 10-J-Q-K-A. Here is how the house deck value differs from regular poker:

This poker game is usually played either by 5 Card Stud or 5 Card Draw, with the latter being what is more commonly used. The procedure is simple to follow and is easy to understand. The players will receive 2 cards at the beginning of a hand—1 card is facing up and 1 card face down.

The player that has a high card will put in his/her bet first. Another card will be given to each player before an interval starts. This will continue until each player has 5 cards in their hands each. Another round of interval/actions and then its the show of cards. The player with the highest house deck according to values and the table above is the one who wins.

The use of only 36 cards makes understanding this game easier for beginners and amateurs. Because there are lesser cards to watch for, there are fewer elements to watch out for. This can become a disadvantage if you’re a seasoned player of the more popular variants of the game. The rearrangement of the house decks can sometimes become confusing for those that are used to the conventional arrangement.

This can be a breath of fresh air for traditional poker players and an added skill for beginners and amateurs. You can easily learn to play this game because there are fewer rules to adhere to and fewer cards to play with. Because of the fewer cards, the sets are closer together, making it easier to obtain the house decks. Poker is a game played with luck, skill and strategy, winning a hand is always fun when you can approximate what your opponents can be holding more accurately.
